Landscaping a new Gypsum community, home by home
Fortress is currently installing the landscaping for the homes at a new residential community in Gypsum — a multi-phase project that began this year and continues into next. Work moves lot by lot as homes are completed, which means coordinating with the build schedule rather than waiting for the whole site to finish.
That kind of work is a different discipline from landscaping an established property. The ground has just been disturbed by construction, drainage patterns are new and untested, irrigation is going in from scratch, and the planting has to survive its first winter at altitude without an established root system. Getting it right the first time is what keeps a builder from paying for it twice.

Why Mountain Sites Are Different
Built to survive the first winter, not just the walkthrough
A landscape installed at 6,500 feet has a narrow window to establish itself. The growing season is short, snowmelt and runoff move differently across freshly graded ground, and there has to be somewhere for plowed snow to go once winter arrives. Wildlife pressure on new planting is real, and irrigation has to be blown out properly before the first hard freeze or it will not survive to spring.
Those constraints shape the plant selection, the grading, the drainage, and where hard surfaces and beds are placed. It is the same judgment Fortress applies across more than 35 years of local mountain work through Hollywood Services, now applied at community scale.
